Rajmachi is at a distance of 15 km from Lonavala and Khandala, 82 km from Mumbai and Pune.
Rajmachi is an ancient fort located in Karjat region, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, built by Shivaji Maharaj during 17th century and now one of the favorite trekking destinations among the adventure seekers, at an altitude of 2710 feet.
It is a historic and strategic fort to control the trade route. Fort consists of huge ramparts, strong walls, massive gateways, water reservoirs, administrative centers, secret gates for exit.
Kal Bhairav temple is situated in the gorge between the two castles, Shrivardhan and Manaranjan forts. Kondhane caves are also situated in the western side of Rajmachi.
In the rainy season, this place looks more beautiful with several waterfalls, streams and green forests. There are two ways for trekking, one from Lonavala which is almost 15 km flat walk and the other one is from Karjat, a gradual climb of 5 km. For the beginners, Lonavala is better for trekking as it is an easier path. Udhewadi is the base for Rajmachi.

Places to visit in Pune - Shaniwar Wada

Shaniwar Wada was built in the historic City of Maratha Kingdom in 1732. It was under Peshwas of Maratha empire till 1818. It was a historic structure for military defenses to protect the city against any attack. As per the design, Shaniwar Wada was a seven storied building in which all the floors were planned to be constructed of stones, but because of construction complications only first floor was built of stones while the rest of six floors were of bricks. After 90 years  of completion, when it was attacked by British Artillery, only six floors which were made of bricks collapsed, while the base made of stone remained, which can also be seen today in Pune. Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Dagdusheth Shrivastav was a trader and a sweet maker who came from Ausa, Maharashtra and permanently settled in Pune. He became a rich business man and a famous sweet seller and got his surname as Halwai. He adopted Govindseth as his son, who later replaced 1st Idol of Ganpati with a new idol.
